WHAT IS TODAY’S TREASURE?
An article that discusses how Google tracks your every move… and some settings changes you can make in response.
HOW’D YOU DISCOVER IT?
While browsing the “USA Today” news website.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?
1. Use of phone screenshots. The article does a nice job of providing a few images to demonstrate what is being discussed.
2. Suggested settings changes. In addition to discussing how Google’s location tracking can be problematic for some (though, not all), the article goes into some settings that can be tweaked to lessen Google’s ability to track your location.
HOW MIGHT THIS BE USEFUL FOR ME?
I think awareness is key here. It’s probably no huge secret at this point that Google can track location activity through a smartphone, but I think people have widely-ranging ideas about the extent of that tracking.
If it’s a big deal to you, definitely tweak your settings.
For others, it might not be a big deal. In fact, some people appreciate being able to go back and look at the places at which they ate or did something.
Everyone’s different, so take your stance and make any adjustments accordingly.
ANY FINAL COMMENTS?
Not really. How one reacts to this largely depends on how one perceives location tracking privacy.
